NCEPOD emergency surgery for the elderly report echoes medics concerns but doesnt go far enough, say professional bodies

A new report finding failings in the treatment of elderly people with surgical emergencies such as hip fractures and abdominal problems makes a potent case for change in NHS hospitals, but recommendations will not be applied without commitment from the highest level in NHS Trusts. This is the view of a range of medical organisations including the Royal College of Surgeons [RCS], Royal College of Anaesthetists [RCoA], British Orthopaedic Association [BOA], Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland [ASGBI] and British Geriatrics Society [BGS].
