Dr Ian Hudson has
commenced his appointment as the new Chief Executive of the Medicines and
Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency. Dr Hudson replaces former Chief Executive
Professor Sir Kent Woods who has stepped down after ten years with the
Agency.
Dr Hudson was previously
the MHRAs Director of Licensing for 12 years, responsible for the majority of
medicines licensing activities in the UK. This followed a career as a physician,
specialising in paediatrics as well as time spent in the pharmaceutical industry
working in clinical research and drug development.
The Agencys Chairman, Sir
Gordon Duff said:
Ian has
excellent, broad experience across all aspects of medicines regulation and is
ideally placed to lead our Agency, which is unique in bringing together
medicines and medical devices regulation together with world-class research
facilities and expertise.
Dr Hudson said:
