Paediatric gastroenterology
Experts will discuss a range of topics from nutrition in difficult to feed children, to the diagnosis and management of cow's milk protein allergy by Dr Sue Protheroe, from the Institute of Child Health, Birmingham Children's Hospital. The latest in the use of endoscopy for this field will be discussed by Dr Mike Thomson, consultant paediatric gastroenterologist at Sheffield Children's Hospital.

Hearts and minds
This meeting will explore some of the latest developments in the management of critically ill patients. Presentations will range from brain failure: protecting the 'at risk' brain in non-neurological critical illness to mechanical circulatory support in heart failure. Neuroscientist Dr Tristan Bekinschtein from the University of Cambridge will present measuring consciousness in intensive care: behaviour and brain signals.

Applying the LEAN approach to healthcare delivery: Is this an issue of clinical leadership?
LEAN is an improvement approach to improve flow and eliminate waste that was originally developed by Toyota. The overall theme of LEAN is about getting the right things to the right place, at the right time, in the right quantities, while minimising waste and being flexible and open to change. The NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement already recommends a package that includes everything you need to set up and run a successful LEAN simulation in your organisation. How useful is the LEAN approach for healthcare systems? An international panel of experts will discuss.
